According to Kaspersky Labs, a monstrous piece of malware called TDL-4, claimed 4.5 million computers in the first three months of 2011, and it’s still growing.
TDL-4 infects computer and copies itself to another over the internet. This network of compromised computers is called a “botnet,” and cybercriminals end up gaining control of the infected computers. Experts say that this one is the strongest botnets they’ve seen.
Its strength is in its decentralization — if one computer is repaired, the botnet is still in place. Every computer is connected to every other computer.
