City folks, it’s time to cheer up. A single platform that caters to your movie and shopping interests is in the offing.Yes! Thiruvananthapuram will get its first multiplex soon. Twin theatres Dhanya and Remya will be demolished to give way to the multi-screen entertainment complex. Owner Mini Muthoot group is in discussions with Bangalore-based engineers regarding the plan of the complex.
General manager of Dhanya and Remya theatres Mani said they had bought around one-and-a-half acres of land near the theatre and were in negotiation for another five cents.“Discussions are going on. It is too early to comment on the date of starting the work. Soon after we get enough land, the Dhanya-Remya complex will be demolished. Also, a portion of the land has to be given away for road-widening. So, it will take time to start the construction of the multiplex. A draft will be ready in two months,†he said.
“The number of screens has not been decided so far, but two screens will be named Dhanya and Remya,†Mani said.“The plan of the multiplex will be similar to the ones in Bangalore. Food court and places for shopping will be a part of it,†he said.
When Thiruvananthapuram sheds its status of a city without multiplexes, it is expected that the young crowd will make a beeline for the multiplex for ‘movie and masti’. The ticket charge might make holes in the pocket of an ordinary moviegoer. But many will try to shell out some money for the peerless experience it would offer. What’s left is to wait for the show to begin.
