I am from that company and comes via cab. The cab drivers drive very fast in the morning in order to get the employees to the office in time. May her soul rest in peace.
the cab drivers in technopark are so careless and they are most dangerous. most of them are in their 20’s and in early 30s. so when they have some girls within the cab. they used to show their driving skills in front of them. it caused many accidents in earlier too. but no incident were reported. reports came only when it is fatal.
more than a dozen of accidents happened within the technopark campus itself because of the careless and rash driving of cab drivers. so the authorities should be more careful.
While most of us blame the cabbies or the bus drivers, let us also take a moment to think of our own inaction.
All of us are educated and why do we not ask the drivers to go slow or drive carefully when they neglect?
We are all selfish and want to reach home or work as fast as we can. We let these people drive rash on the road.
I was driving with a friend to Infopark Kochi and a car brushed our car on the right damaging both doors on the right. The driver came out and apologized and told me that he was forced to drive fast because the techie wanted to reach office urgently. The idiot stepped outside his car, told me he had a meeting and so had to go ASAP.
Now who is to be blamed here?? The 18 something cabbie or the engineer?
People when you are going in the car tell the idiots to drive carefully or you may DIE or permanently injure yourself. its that simple.
If you ladies cannot complain or do not want to talk to the cabbie, talk to your HR if you feel your life is worth.
Take responsibility of your life, no authorities are going to do anything about it
Road users in kerala are notorious for causing accidents invariably. There is no day with out the news of road accidents. Chunk of the accidents are due to bad practices on road. Drunken driving, violation of road traffic and safety norms, poor concern for lives of others, are major reasons of accident. Needless to say, poor road infrastructure also favors them to make road mishaps. Our policy makers need to frame stringent rules and regulations for vehicle users and appoint eminent bureaucrats to implement them.
Here I would highlight key issue involved in various accidents.
• A large no of our youngsters mix drink and drive. They drink quite often and remain under heavy intoxication for larger period. So even a gap of two or three days of non-drinking, stills keeps them under alcohol. Driving under the influence of alcohol causes giddiness, fainting or blackouts which results in lose of balance and subsequently leads to accidents.
•
• Significant no of keralaite import and use high tech vehicles – which are least designed to run on our “poot hole†ridden narrow roads. Such car users are least hi-tec, and lacks proper technical knowledge of their vehicle. They invariably make mistakes which results in collision with other vehicles on roads and inflicts heavy damage.
•
• In some cases, accident causers, cleverly put the blame on others, at times violently behaving and escaping from the scene.
• Private buses (especially those operating regular services to bangalore, chennai) don’t care about the roads. They drive as if they are implementing an agenda. The agenda is to reach the far off destination in shortest possible time. Usually this time is set by passenger. Once I saw a passenger insisting driver to reach the Bangalore (from trvandrum) in 9 hours. Half of the accidents, which occur during nights are because of the over speed of these private buses. In the run to reach the destination at shortest time they take routes not approved by the Govt, causing destruction to property and lives.
An average keralite reads/listens about accidents in newspaper/media and ignores it as yet another funny thing. But when the accident happens to him or his kit and kin, he blames on everything from govt to poor pedestrians and goes on rampage. Each one of us are paying a price for our own wrong doings.
I have few suggestions, which if implemented can to a certain extend reduce the accidents.
1. Repair and widen the NH Roads in a war foot manner. NH Roads are in very poor conditions. Appoint a person like a Suresh kumar IAS (Man behind Munnar evacuations) for implementing this.
2. Root out the rampant corruption in RTOs. A honest and brave IAS officer like Raju Narayanaswamy have to be assigned the task of rooting out the corruption involving licenses,
3. Impose huge road tax on imported cars. Also levy higher tax on heavy cars such as scorpio, quails, which involve majority of accidents. This exercise should be as part of discouraging from buying and using such cars.
4. Cancellation of license of erring private bus owners. Setting up speed limits for these buses. A Highway monitoring agency should strictly watch their movements within kerala.
Let us pray for the soul of Aswathy and her family well being ness. Also let us pray to god to teach each of us good manners in roads.
Sooraj, You said the truth man. but our people would be ignoring or simply forgetting the rules. The changes wont happen untill our people take it and folliw it seriously.
I witnessed for such an incident just 3 days back. I went to the kulathooor electricity office to pay my electricity bills. then a very decent looking gentleman came out from the office of the engineer with a huge bill ( it seems around 50K) tried to skip the queue infront of me.
Nobody questioned him, because he looked like a big officer, and he carry himself like that with gadgets and arrogance. I strongly opposed his action, and I told ” we all are in the queue, and I think all of us having the same rules for joining a queue. I don’t mind whether you can skip the queue back of me if the other people wont mind, but I have concerns if you are in front of me, because it delay me one person”
He resisted and told me so many excuses like this engineer is his friend, and he was in this queue, but went to engineers cabin to sort out something..blah blah… I told him that once you leave the queue, you have to join at the end when you come back. and nobody will reserve your position in a queue, if you leave once…
after a long argument he agreed me, and joined the back of the queue. I noticed all the times, his car was switched on outside putting a/c on.
Our people are afraid of such law breakers by their appearance or influences or our people think they are inferior to others. this should be changed, we can only impose the laws when we are brave and dutiful and react or response to the incidents.
The systems wont change by its own, we need to change the system. so lets start it by ourselves.
Condolences to Aswathy’s grieving family.
Nuf said. Rest of the comments are crocodile tears. My personal reaction to this incident would be to try to become a safer driver.
This is so sad.. Condolences… 🙁
Looks like the Scorpio was trying to overtake some other vehicle and crashed into the bus. These kind of accidents are very common in Kerala. Please DO NOT overtake while vehicles are coming against you! PLEASE!! That is just basic common sense! Do not expect everyone to just make way for you!
