UST Global – Technopark’s Football Champions!

UST Global have been crowned the champions of GOAL 2011, Technopark’s premier football tournament. In a tense and thrilling final, UST defeated Tata Elxsi 3-2 on penalties after both teams were tied at 1-1 after full time.

Tata Elxsi took the lead early in the first half after a well taken corner by Ratheesh was turned into the post by Emmy. The second half saw complete domination by UST Global. 15 minutes into the second half, Ajay latched on to a carelessly cleared ball by the Tata Elxsi defense and placed the ball into the far corner of the net, much to the delight of the UST supporters. In the ensuing penalty shootout, the UST goalkeeper, Jeeth, was the hero and saved 3 penalties to ensure that the cup returned to UST Global.

The 3rd place was won by Allianz Cornhill who defeated Infosys 1-0. Govind scored the lone goal of the match.

Jeeth Sasidharan of UST Global was adjudged the player of the tournament. The golden boot award was shared between Govind of Allianz, Sabarish & Ajay of UST Global who scored 5 goals each.

The ladies penalty shootout, conducted for the first time in the history of GOAL 2011, was won by the Tata Elxsi team.

The prizes were handed over by Shri S.Gopinath, IPS, Inspector General of Police (Traffic & RSM).
