VK Mathews Elected Chairman of GTECH: Promising Growth Ahead for Kerala’s IT Sector

Mr. VK Mathews, Founder and Executive Chairman of IBS Software, has been elected as Chairman of the Group of Technology Companies (GTECH) for 2024-2026. Joining him is Mr. Sreekumar V, appointed as Secretary, bringing leadership from Tata Elxsi Trivandrum to the forefront of Kerala’s IT industry. Their election marks a pivotal moment for GTECH, representing over 250 IT firms and shaping the future of technology-driven growth in the state.

TechnoparkToday, June 28: In a significant development for Kerala’s burgeoning IT sector, Mr. VK Mathews, Founder and Executive Chairman of IBS Software, has been elected as the Chairman of the Group of Technology Companies (GTECH) for the term 2024-2026. This announcement came following the Annual General Body Meeting of GTECH held in Thiruvananthapuram last Friday, where Mr. Sreekumar V, Centre Head at Tata Elxsi Trivandrum, was appointed Secretary. Their tenure will extend until April 2026.

GTECH, representing approximately 250 IT firms in Kerala, plays a pivotal role in the state’s economy, employing over 80% of its IT workforce. Notably, Kerala hosts nearly two lakh IT professionals, with a majority based in prominent IT hubs like Technopark (Trivandrum), Infopark (Cochin), and Cyberpark (Kozhikode). The collective export revenue generated by these IT parks amounted to Rs 20,000 crores by the end of the fiscal year 2023.

Addressing the attendees at the GTECH Annual General Body Meeting, Mr. VK Mathews expressed his commitment to advancing the association’s mission. “GTECH has evolved into a significant trade association, driving numerous business and social initiatives that benefit the youth and broader community,” he remarked. Highlighting GTECH’s role in fostering IT growth, he emphasized its support for existing IT enterprises, collaboration with governmental bodies, mentorship of startups, and advocacy efforts to garner public backing for the sector.

In recent years, GTECH has undertaken impactful initiatives, including organizing large-scale marathons to raise awareness about drug abuse among Kerala’s youth. Their Mu Learn initiative has also revolutionized industry-academia collaborations, significantly enhancing the employability of graduating students.

GTECH boasts a diverse membership, encompassing major IT players like TCS, Infosys, Wipro, Cognizant, and others, alongside medium and small-scale enterprises. As Kerala’s IT sector continues to expand, GTECH remains poised to drive innovation, foster economic growth, and create substantial employment opportunities across the state.
