TechnoparkToday.com(Feb, 2014):

The Vytilla Mobility Hub Society (VMHS), which is buoyed by the success of first phase of Vytilla Mobility Hub, will showcase the second phase of the Hub’s expansion project at the Partner Kerala meet to attract prospective private investors. The VMHS has prepared a detailed project report and master plan for second phase which is estimated at a total cost of Rs 433.34 crores.

The project will convert Vyttila into a major transportation and commercial hub. The first phase of the project has already made the hub into a transit point for 650 private buses and 400 KSRTC buses which conduct multiple trips on a daily basis catering to around 25000 people. With the completion of the second phase, the Vyttila Mobility Hub will become one of the major transit points in the state. It will also become the convergence point of road, metro rail and water transportation modes.

The core of the concept is to make public conveyance system in the city more comfortable and persuade people to discard over-dependence on private vehicles by inculcating the habit of using public transportation as much as possible.

The second phase includes an integrated transportation facility and a commercial complex. The ground floor of the building will have 136 bus bays built in a floor area of 1, 61,000 sqft. It will provide all types of passenger amenities like information counters, ticket booking counters, ATMs, clock rooms, refreshment stalls, breast feeding kiosk etc.

The open space of ground floor will have provision for parking 500 two wheelers and elegant river-side landscape. The proposed basement floor of 5, 50,000 sqft can house 1000 cars and 1000 two-wheelers.

The VMHS has also envisaged a walkway connecting the Metro Rail Station, Bus Terminal, Boat Jetty, basement parking area and the commercial space to ensure smooth transit of commuters from one mode to another.

The proposed commercial complex will have five floors, each of them having a floor area of 1, 07,720 sqft. The first three floors have been designed as commercial space with multiple shops in each floor. The top floors will accommodate four multiplexes, food courts and children’s party/entertainment area.

The detailed plan and design of the project have been prepared by KITCO Ltd and has got clearance from State Environment Impact Assessment Authority.

The proposed facility will come up at the 25.19 acres of prime land situated near Vyttila junction and is accessible from N.H-47, NH-49 (Vyttila – Petta Road) and Kaniyampuzha Road. It is also close to the National Water way Il and the Ernakulam- Kottayam railway track.

Vyttila station of Kochi Metro Rail is under construction at the Mobility Hub premises. The State Water Transport Department (SWTD) has already launched a city water bus service from the mobility hub to Kakkanad via Eroor and is now planning to connect Thevara, Thoppumpady and Fort Kochi through this service. Meanwhile, the Railway authorities have submitted a proposal to construct a station near the Kaniyampuzha Bridge.
