The website, www.railyatri.in/sabarimala, launched exclusively for the outstation Sabarimala pilgrims by the Southern Railways has turned out to be a huge success.
As the “Mandalakalam†(the Sabarimala pilgrimage season) came to an end on Wednesday, December 28, 2011, it became evident that the website, launched about a month ago, had become an instant hit among the vast number of pilgrims to world-famous shrine of Lord Ayyappa.
The site has been providing details regarding trains passing through and stopping at the near-by stations of Chengannur, Thiruvalla, and Kottayam.
Site statistics show that the majority of the visitors were from the South Indian states, and notably, pilgrims from Tamil Nadu, who have made the maximum use its services.
In the past one week, the site was visited by 21,000 from Tamil Nadu, 8,750 from Karnataka, and 2,000 from Andhra Pradesh.
The website also plotted the train status on a satellite map, which ensured maximum accuracy.
