Technopark Trivandrum is the country’s first and the greenest IT park, houses close to 150 companies. Seemingly perfect from the outside, the Technopark suffers from a slew of shortcomings. So say the men and women at the Park. With more than 20,000 employees working in various companies, the needs too vary. Is the IT park providing the employees with all they want? What all does the park lack?
Food Quality:
For one, there is the food quality. Lack of a food court has been the major concern for a long time until the newest building in the park, Thejaswini came up with one. Even then the prices are not affordable for many employees. Every company is not an Infosys or a TCS. Many of the small companies here don’t offer a fat pay packet for the employees, so they can’t afford the high prices at the food court. As for the cheaper eat-outs, there has to be a compromise on the food quality. This is one of the primary concerns that non-Keralites in the park raise.
Health Care Facilities:
Secondly, the lack of a proper health care center within the premises. There is a small hospital wing in the campus. But a place where more than 20000+ professionals working – technopark need a well-equipped hospital and health care facilities. what we are having right now is a small clinic and a maruti omni ambulance.
Most of the small companies not having the health care insurance for its employees. Large companies like Infosys, UST Global and IBS are providing health care coverage to its employees, in association with National Insurance. but the Insurance company is not providing services for companies less than a certain number of employees.
Security Management:
Yet another major shortcoming is the absence of an acceptable security management system. This is an issue that every Technopark employee worries about. Anyone who flashes a card that looks remotely like an identity card could gain entry into the premises. There is no proper checking, manually or technologically. GTech had approached the government for stronger security management measures including bomb squads to be deployed at the campus. There had been a few bomb threats in the park last year, following the terror attacks in Bangalore and Ahmedabad. The action taken in this regard, is however, far from satisfying.
Transportation:
The lack of a convenient transportation system is also a matter for worry . Employees depending on public transportation facilities have to rely on walking or else wait for the Technopark Express that ran everyday within the premises. There should be a transport system exclusively for the employees in Technopark, where anyone from any of the companies could embark on.
The Feel Good Factor:
Despite the shortcomings, many techies prefer Technopark for its greenery and serenity, and for the low cost of living in the state, to the busy hubs and expensive living in other states. A lot more needs to be done to help the Trivandrum Technopark. The employees expect more amenities to be brought in so that the Technopark continues to be on top of their minds always when they think of their career growth.

These are the naked truths, and technopark is no more a small place as it was in 90s. with the growing crowd, the authorities needs to be provide the facilities also.
Excellent site technoparktoday.com and I am really pleased to see you have what I am actually looking for here: this… As it’s taken me literally 2 hours and 51 minutes of searching the web to find you (just kidding!) so I shall be pleased to become a regular visitor 🙂
Technopark is still missing parking facilities in Bhavani,Periyar and Pamba. they solved it in nila.but when they make new buildings, please make sure that it has enough parking space
the only developement in technopark is they built some new buildings, all other basic needs and infrasturctures are still the same as when they started. many examples are there, the water and power supply, health club, sports facilities, even technopark does not have a descent place to sit or walk. resturants are worse than ever, teh only relief is the food court in tejaswini. but they are too expensive
Technopark needs to provide more facilities to employees. transportation is the most important. no public transport is available for employees staying near by the NH. Also girls working late and staying near kazhakoottam is reported some bad incidents.
we need a change according to the growth. upgrade the facilities as we do it in computers. you can’t work in a computer with 2001’s configuration, as the new software comes, you have to upgrade its RAM disk and the monitor ( just for appearance and save power). This is very much applicable for the place where thousands of computers working all the time.
Technopark is a govt organization. but better than any other organizations. but we need it more better.
Guys its still a developing place.Administration Quality should improve.Good transportation in and off the park from kazhakoottam 24×7 is compulsory.Healthy good food at a good reasonable prices such as Kerala and Tamil Nadu cultural food and good branded shops in food court such as KFC,PIZZA CORNER is necessary.Medical Aid and Hospital should be compulsively BUILD KIMS Should get a branch in techno park.
Good post. technopark is overcrowded and they are destroying all the GREEN from technopark for making new buildings with no parking space or other facilities.
very true. technopark is the only industry showing some growth in kerala. please save technopark
very true and good article. good job editor.
i also like to write articles in technoparktoday. what is the procedure for that?
Inspite of the fact that IT has existed in Kazhakuttom for nearly 2 decades, one does not see any infrastructural or social development around the town.
1. Lack of “good” accommodation (apartments – nil, overpriced land, over-hyped rentals)
2. Lack of security and safety (you know what i mean)
3. Lack of entertainment facilities (movie theaters, decent bars etc)
4. Lack of decent food joints (good food, clean food)
5. Lack of shopping facilities (not even one ‘supermarket’; no malls)
6. Lack of local transport (rip-off auto services, very few city buses)
7. Lack of train stopovers
8. Lack of good schools
9. Lack of Play schools, Day care etc
10. Lack of good hospitals
11. Worst, lack of good citizens
There are many more.
it is very obvious that Kazhakuttom is simply a stopover for techies. Not many people choose to stay back in Kazhakuttom or Trivandrum for lack of facilities. There are a lot of youth staying in Kazhakuttom who literally run away from the area once their obligation with their employer ends.
I would say Technopark also lack a good creche where the female employees can leave their child safely during office hours.
Hi
I think TP also lacks things like a good pharmacy.
very true. technopark is making new buildings only. not making any related infrastructures or facilities related to that.
Technopark needs to be improve a lot for accommodating a big IT crowd. Don’t you think it is already over-crowded?
Hii alll,
one more would thing that i like to stress more is a good accomodation. for the people who are working in such tight schedule need to have an accomodation near technopark. But all know the worst situation here actually all have to give a request to the government or techno authorities to provide quarters for those who are working here.
